KALIMAS

Six Kalimas of Islam

The 6 Kalimas with accurate Arabic text, English transliteration, and Urdu & English translations.

1. Kalima Tayyibah (Word of Purity)

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ

Pronunciation: Laa ilaaha ill-Allaahu Muhammadur-Rasoolu-llaah

Translation: There is no god worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad (ﷺ) is the Messenger of Allah.

2. Kalima Shahadah (Word of Testimony)

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Pronunciation: Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhoo wa rasooluh

Translation: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

3. Kalima Tamjeed (Word of Glory)

سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلهِ وَلَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَاللهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ

Pronunciation: Subhaan-Allaahi wal-hamdu lillaahi wa laa ilaaha ill-Allaahu wallaahu akbar, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaahil-‘aliyyil-‘azeem

Translation: Glory be to Allah, and praise be to Allah, and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest; and there is no power or might except with Allah, the Most High, the Supreme.

4. Kalima Tawheed (Word of Oneness)

لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ، وَهُوَ حَيٌّ لَا يَمُوتُ أَبَدًا أَبَدًا، ذُو الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ، بِيَدِهِ الْخَيْرُ، وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Pronunciation: Laa ilaaha ill-Allaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamd, yuhyee wa yumeet, wa Huwa hayyun laa yamootu abadan abadaa, dhul-jalaali wal-ikraam, biyadihil-khayr, wa Huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in Qadeer

Translation: There is no god but Allah alone with no partner. His is the sovereignty and His is the praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is living and will never die. Possessor of Majesty and Honor. In His hand is all good, and He has power over all things.

5. Kalima Astaghfar (Word of Forgiveness)

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللهَ رَبِّي مِنْ كُلِّ ذَنْبٍ أَذْنَبْتُهُ عَمْدًا أَوْ خَطَأً، سِرًّا أَوْ عَلَانِيَةً، وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنَ الذَّنْبِ الَّذِي أَعْلَمُ، وَمِنَ الذَّنْبِ الَّذِي لَا أَعْلَمُ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الْغُيُوبِ وَسَتَّارُ الْعُيُوبِ وَغَفَّارُ الذُّنُوبِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ

Pronunciation: Astaghfirullaaha Rabbee min kulli dhambin adhnabtuhoo ‘amdan aw khata-an, sirran aw ‘alaaniyah, wa atoobu ilayhi minadh-dhambil-ladhee a’lam, wa minadh-dhambil-ladhee laa a’lam, innaka Anta ‘Allaamul-ghuyoobi wa Sattaarul-‘uyoobi wa Ghaffaarudh-dhunoob, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaahil-‘aliyyil-‘azeem

Translation: I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, for every sin I committed knowingly or unknowingly, secretly or openly, and I turn to Him in repentance from the sins I know and from the sins I do not know. Indeed You are the Knower of hidden things, Concealer of faults, and Forgiver of sins; and there is no power nor strength except with Allah.

6. Kalima Radde Kufr (Rejection of Disbelief)

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ شَيْئًا وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا لَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِ، تُبْتُ عَنْهُ وَتَبَرَّأْتُ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَالشِّرْكِ وَالْكِذْبِ وَالْغِيبَةِ وَالْبِدْعَةِ وَالنَّمِيمَةِ وَالْفَوَاحِشِ وَالْبُهْتَانِ وَالْمَعَاصِي كُلِّهَا، وَأَسْلَمْتُ وَأَقُولُ: لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللهِ

Pronunciation: Allaahumma innee a’oodhu bika min an ushrika bika shay-an wa anaa a’lamu bih, wa astaghfiruka limaa laa a’lamu bih, tubtu ‘anhu wa tabarra’tu minal-kufri wash-shirki wal-kidhbi wal-gheebati wal-bid’ati wan-nameemati wal-fawaahishi wal-buhtaani wal-ma’aasee kullihaa, wa aslamtu wa aqoolu: Laa ilaaha ill-Allaahu Muhammadur-Rasoolu-llaah

Translation: O Allah! I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You, and I ask Your forgiveness for that which I do not know. I repent from it and disassociate from disbelief, polytheism, lying, backbiting, innovation, slander, lewdness, and all disobedience. I submit to Islam and declare: There is no god but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

Dua for Seeking Knowledge

رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

Pronunciation: Rabbi zidnee ‘ilmaa

Translation: My Lord, increase me in knowledge. (Surah Ta-Ha: 114)

Dua Before Sleeping

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Pronunciation: Bismika Allaahumma amootu wa ahyaa

Translation: In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.

Dua Upon Waking Up

الْحَمْدُ لِلهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Pronunciation: Al-hamdu lillaahil-ladhee ahyaanaa ba’da maa amaatanaa wa ilayhin-nushoor

Translation: All praise is for Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the ultimate resurrection.

Dua When Leaving Home

بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ

Pronunciation: Bismillaahi tawakkaltu ‘alallaah, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaah

Translation: In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah; there is no power nor might except with Allah.

Dua for Parents

رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا

Pronunciation: Rabbir-hamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanee sagheeraa

Translation: My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small. (Quran 17:24)

TAJWEED

Sanaa (Opening Supplication)

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ، وَتَعَالَىٰ جَدُّكَ، وَلَا إِلٰهَ غَيْرُكَ

Pronunciation: Subhaanak-Allaahumma wa bihamdika wa tabaarak-asmuka wa ta’aalaa jadduka wa laa ilaaha ghayruk

Translation: Glory be to You, O Allah, and all praises are for You, and blessed is Your name, and exalted is Your majesty, and there is no deity besides You.

Tashahhud (At-Tahiyyat)

التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَىٰ عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Pronunciation: At-tahiyyaatu lillaahi was-salawaatu wat-tayyibaatu, as-salaamu ‘alayka ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh, as-salaamu ‘alaynaa wa ‘alaa ‘ibaadillaahis-saaliheen, ash-hadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allaahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhoo wa rasooluh

Translation: All compliments, prayers, and pure things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

﴿ اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ ﴾
